19: Three Quick Takeaways from the Upcoming episode with Adora Cheung a Partner at Y Combinator

April 8, 2018

I want to give a few teasers for what you will learn and gain from listening to this upcoming episode. Adora was very generous in making time in her busy life to talk with me, and I want to make sure all of you tune in to hear our discussion. She is a very interesting person with a story that shows that it’s not easy to find your way, but if you persist and you work really hard, you can get a chance at making it. During the recording, we went over the time limit two times because of how much fun we were having. I want that to be something that everyone takes from these episodes. Namely, that 99% of the people you meet are similar to you in one way or another who are waiting to laugh and have impassioned discussions. I love to hear people laugh and talk about what they are interested in.

For our talk, I prepared extensively because I wanted to ask good questions and to not sound too silly…  You be the judge of how well I succeeded on that front.

Three Takeaways

  1. People are kinder than you realize, and someone like Adora, who interacts with lots of people and travels all over the world, speaks to that within the first 3 minutes of the podcast.
  2. We get into the Y bio program and her advice on it and the normal YC program.
  3. We get a snapshot of who she is and what she wants to accomplish.

We get into a lot more than the above, but you’ll have to tune in on Tuesday to find out. To hold you over, and to make use of the time I took researching Adora, I will be putting links below to talks she gave and some things you can get from each of them.

Start here:

Here is the first Youtube video where she talks about 1) Differences of sticky, viral, and paid growth, 2) When to start your business, and 3) The dark ages times she went through *Great for people who think everything is an overnight success. Youtube video link.

Here is the transcribed version of that video, if you are more of a reader.

How she knew she had a good business idea. Link.

Her thoughts on startups outside of Silicon Valley: Link

Here she is with a few of her colleagues at a female founder conference. You’ll get a lot of great information from this even if you are not a women. They do mock interviews, discuss how to talk about yourself, talk about things they’ve learned that can help others, and when it’s appropriate to be apologetic. Link

Here is a quick clip fun clip on when you should say sorry! 🙂
